The Manager, HCD, MB Retail is responsible for the operational delivery of HCD services and support leaders and staff. The Manager, HCD, MB Retail will work with leaders and staff, to identify, develop and implement solutions across a range of HCD functions including, workforce planning, managing for performance, organisational restructuring, employee relations, organisational and staff development, and employee engagement. The Manager, HCD in partnership with Director develops and implements key change management strategies and services to improve staff and retail business performance. The role will be a key driver and leader in ensuring the effective development and implementation of HCD strategies for designated areas.


  • Primary Business Partner for designated function(s). Responsible for the delivery of the wider HCD strategy in line with the business strategy across function(s). Will be responsible for assisting in developing strategy for function(s) that meets the overall HCD strategy, commercial and business strategy
  • Employee Engagement & Relations - responsible for all levels of employee engagement and relations including recruiting, performance management, succession planning, ER issues, retention, compensation, etc. Advise and coach on employee relations, performance management, policies and procedures and practical resolutions to employee issues reflecting the business culture aware whilst understanding and observing employment law. Help develop capability of line managers in managing their staff
  • Talent Management - Identify training /skills / competency needs within the organisation. Manage career development, succession planning and talent management needs in partnership with line management. With line manager, identify skills shortages and where there is need to improve. Drive Workforce Planning and Performance Management practices in function(s). Work in partnership with Customer Experience Director in career mapping for all retail
  • Organisational Restructures: Accountable and Responsible for organisational restructures from proposal through to execution, using employment legislation knowledge and business history. Offer advice and guidance with leadership team and other relevant managers where appropriate and ensuring all changes are completed within the agreed timeframe. All under the guidance and approval from HCD Director
  • Managing and co-ordinating key activity including annual pay review and bonus with full accountability for the accuracy of data. Building comprehensive knowledge of the pay, grade and benefits structure, advising and influencing on increases and producing persuasive salary and bonus proposals. Driving, managing and co-ordinating Brand & Kao alignment Reward and Recognition
  • HR Metrics - Analyze and provide recommendation to the business from HCD Metrics including headcount, turnover, time to fill, etc... Develop action plans to address areas of concern. Oversee headcount reporting for accuracy. Data auditing with 95% + data accuracy
  • Learn and develop knowledge cross functionally to support fellow HCD Managers. Contributing to cross sector / function projects supporting company's strategic plan and supporting fellow HCD Managers. Conduct training in partnership with other HCD Managers/HCD Advisor


  • Degree Qualified or equivalent
  • CIPD Qualification or equivalent
  • 7 + years in HR
  • 5 + years retail experience
  • FMCG/Beauty/ experience preferable
  • Proven ability to pro-actively determine the requirements of HR from the client group and act on the information
  • Be able to provide successful business partnering with managers and leader
  • Have the ability to pro-actively deliver against a broad HR remit
  • Have organizational change experience, within a complex matrix, multi-site organisation
  • Proven ability to influence and provide HR input at a business unit level
  • Assist managers and employees in understanding and applying HR tools in order to maximize employee performance, achieve organizational effectiveness, improve employee engagement and ensure legal compliance
