Overview

The Sr. Production Manager, Packaging & Continuous Improvement role is responsible for leading, influencing, managing and supporting the day to day plant packaging operations and personnel in a 3-shift, 5 day per week (weekends as needed) manufacturing environment. Performs essential functions to ensure safety and first pass quality meets or exceeds planned goals. Oversees and plans manpower and equipment capability accordingly to ensure adherence to production schedules, safely and efficiently. Ensures compliance to all FDA & Environmental Regulations as well as Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs). Establishes and maintains effective communication with employees and cross functional teams in order to achieve Packaging objectives.

This role is also responsible for the management of production-related continuous improvement projects and personnel. Responsible for conceptualizing new and/or innovative approaches to improve the safety, reliability, efficiency, cost reduction and quality of the Packaging department, and influence to gain alignment and approval for implementation of such concepts. Lead and coach junior-level engineers on the identification and implementation of future equipment and process improvement projects.

Responsibilities

Packaging

  • Ensure adherence to safety requirements; participate in safety training and safety audits
  • Collaborate with Planning function to meet production schedules
  • Ensure product quality consistently meets specification
  • Manage and provide positive leadership to labor force comprised of both full time and temporary employees
  • Supervisor team of 3 shift supervisors, providing SOPs, GMP, process, equipment and quality training; provide leadership and coaching for managerial skill development
  • Liaison with Plant Manager and other top management to assist in the development of strategic plans for operational activity
  • Prepare and monitor annual department budget and work to deliver at or below plan
  • Maintain organized, clean and safe working environment
  • Perform payroll duties

Continuous Improvement

  • Ensure adherence to safety requirements
  • Ensure existing processes maintain a high level of performance by continuously reviewing and refining them to drive productivity and profit
  • Manage and provide positive leadership to engineers for capital improvement projects
  • Prepare and deliver effective presentations for projects
  • Lead and/or participate in Engineering design, safety, GMP and environmental reviews for plant changes as part of the Management of Change (MOC) process

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Packaging, Electrical or Chemical Engineering required
  • Minimum 8 years of packaging operations management within the consumer products, pharmaceutical or food/beverage industries
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate people and deal appropriately with conflict and difficult situations
  • Proficient understanding of packaging equipment, e.g. high-speed fillers, case erectors, bottle loaders & orienters, cappers, pump placers, check weighers, cartoners, palletizers, etc.
  • Proven record of effective problem analysis and problem resolution at both a strategic and functional level
  • Ability to engage a cross-functional team to a desired outcome
  • Strong change management skills
  • Strong analytical and attention to details skills
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced production environment
  • Ability to accurately maintain records
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Must have ability to communicate at all levels within the organization
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Knowledge of GMPs
  • Knowledge of Microsoft, AutoCAD, SAP required
