Mechanical Engineer II


This role will provide Package Engineering services for Supply Chain Management. The Packaging Engineer II will plan and direct line trials to commercialize new package structures. The Packaging Engineer II will also source, specify, install and qualify packaging equipment for internal cosmetic and OTC manufacturing.



  • Execute line trials, line validation and process capability studies at internal and external contract manufactures for new package structures.
  • Create and maintain package component technical specifications and finished goods assembly specifications.
  • Ensure that packaging specifications comply with all applicable FDA, OTC, state and local regulations in addition to well-established company and industry specific performance requirements.

Technical Support

  • Troubleshoot technical packaging problems as they arise in internal/external production.
  • Identify, investigate and resolve package issues that hinder production efficiency, frequently under tight timelines.

Capital and Equipment

  • Source and recommend packaging equipment solutions to meet internal production requirements in an OTC environment.
  • Develop and manage installation timelines using project management fundamentals.
  • Install and qualify packaging equipment using IQ/OQ/PQ and OTC validation protocols.

Cost Reduction

  • Identify, drive, support and implement cost reduction initiatives at the package supplier and the finished goods manufacturer levels.
  • Develop and recommend package component design modifications that will result in a more robust package system and/or a lower overall cost, working closely with R&D Packaging Development to performance test, conduct line trials and implement.

Supplier Quality

  • Drive root cause investigations and corrective actions at the supplier to prevent reoccurrence of non-conformance
  • Perform audits of key package suppliers to assess adequacy of quality systems.


  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Packaging Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in an engineering role with a working knowledge of general manufacturing, distribution and shipment environments, statistical methods and problem solving techniques.
  • OTC manufacturing experience highly preferred.
  • Availability to travel up to 20% to domestic and foreign locations.
