Senior Sales Manager- Performance Chemicals


Kao Specialties Americas LLC (KSA) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Kao Corporation, Tokyo, Japan. The majority of the global product lines are based on surface-active agents or "surfactant" chemistries. KSA is a specialty chemicals manufacturing company with three major business segments (1) Oleo Chemicals, (2) Performance Chemicals and (3) Specialty Chemicals including Imaging Materials and Aroma Chemicals.

The facility is located in High Point, NC on approximately 60 acres. KSA conducts its daily operations in accordance with The Kao Way and principles of Kao's Business Conduct Guidelines. KSA is currently recruiting for a Technical Sales Manager. This is a challenging, individual contributor position, driving sales for a large chemical processing facility. Daily duties include:

  • Manage the sales development process from consultation to commercialization
  • Sell consultatively, detailing products, determine customer needs and requirements, and make recommendations to both prospects and existing customers of the various solutions KSA can offer their business
  • Build long-term relationships with an existing customer base by understanding their key business drivers, and selling new chemistries
  • Execute appropriate sales strategy based on customer and technical specifics
  • Grow sales in assigned market segments including oil field chemistries
  • Lead and educate other sales staff on KSA product offerings
  • Overnight travel approximately 50% of work
  • Develop sales strategies and customer specific requirements
  • Create financial and technical documents for customer proposals
  • Be team oriented and have the ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Work collaboratively with R&D and Production leadership for total customer satisfaction


Candidates for this position must have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
  • Seven plus years' technical sales experience in the chemical industry
  • Demonstrated expertise leading new products through customer technical trials
  • Business Development experience for a variety of chemical products
  • Strong technical and analytical skills
  • Strong grasp of marketing, sales, and business development concepts
  • Must be a motivated, self-starter, with strong networking and communication skills
  • Ability to take a consultative sales approach with a primary emphasis on strong account leadership skills

The ideal candidate would also have the following skills:

  • Fifteen years' technical sales experience in the chemical industry
  • Experience with surfactant and ester chemistry, oil field markets, adhesives/sealants and lubricants
  • Some formulation experience preferred
  • MBA or related graduate business degree
